‘1923’ Season 2 Episode 1 Recap: Shocking Deaths, Plot Twists and Hidden Clues You Overlooked
The Duttons face death, danger and shocking twists in this action-packed ‘1923’ season opener

Caution: Saddle-sized spoilers ahead
Winter has officially hit Bozeman, Montana, and trust us when we say it’s as cold and dangerous as it seems—at least for the Dutton family.
In the explosive 1923 season 2 debut—entitled “The Killing Season”—viewers follow the family’s patriarch, Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford), as he travels from his ranch to the big city to try and clear Zane Davis’s (Brian Geraghty) name. Elsewhere, Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) desperately tries to reunite with her husband Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar), Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché) and Marshal Kent (Jamie McShane) are desperate to find Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves) and Cara (Helen Mirren) faces a battle she never saw coming.
And if all of that wasn’t enough, the episode is filled with several easter eggs you might have missed the first time. To discover what they are, keep scrolling!
Spencer Dutton has officially released his inner lion-hunter

It’s no secret that Spencer Dutton has a dark side—as demonstrated by his killing Alexandra’s ex-fiancé Arthur, the Earl of Sussex (Bruce Davison), at the end of season 1—however, it now seems like he has fully embraced it, and is planning on using it to his advantage as he travels by ship to America.
In the first episode of season 2, he is seen beating a rapist, as well as all the other men aboard the ship, to earn himself some extra money—and what’s even worse is that he seems to be almost enjoying it, leaving viewers wondering if Spencer will finally live up to his nickname “The Lion Hunter” or if he will cower down and become a cub throughout the rest of the season.
Alexandra is depressed, desperate and devastated

Despite her husband’s violent outbursts, Alexandra is choosing to deal with their separation in an entirely different way: by lying in bed and coming up with a plan to get to America.
To do so, she decides to have her friend Jennifer (Jo Ellen Pellman) sell all of her jewels in an effort to earn enough money to secure passage to the land of the free.
None of this matters, though in light of the news that Alexandra shares: she is pregnant with Spencer’s child and running out of time.
The child’s gender has yet to be confirmed, but several people think that it will grow up to become John Dutton II (Dabney Coleman) since it is believed that Elizabeth (Michelle Randolph) and Jack Dutton (Darren Mann) cannot have kids after her devastating miscarriage in season 1.
Only time will tell, though.
Teonna Rainwater is back with her people—but for how long?

After her traumatizing stay at the Montana-based Catholic boarding school, Teonna Rainwater is officially back with her father, Runs His Horse (Michael Spears), and her lover, Pete Plenty Clouds (Jeremy Gauna) and they are living on a small patch of land in Texas, despite them wanting to settle down in Wyoming.
However, Father Renaud and Marshal Kent are doing everything in their power to capture her and make her pay for what she did to her abuser, Sister Mary (Jennifer Ehle). They will stop at nothing and spare the lives of no Native Americans to make it happen.
Be warned: this storyline is not for the faint of heart and will continue to unravel as the season progresses.
The Duttons are faced with death

While on the road to Bozeman, Jacob learns of an impending winter storm, meaning he might be kept away from his wife, Cara, longer than he expected.
The distance is the least of Cara’s worries, though, because she and Elizabeth wake up every morning to find a mountain lion on their porch. The wild animal eventually tries to attack Elizabeth, but Cara kills it.
Now, in the Yellowstone universe, killing an animal is nothing new. However, this one could lend itself as a key foreshadowing moment since Cara’s nephew Spencer is often called “The Lion.”
Could this killing be a sign that, upon his return home, Spencer is going to be shot and killed? Let’s hope not because who knows what that would mean for Alexandra and their unborn child.
