The show isn’t linked to ‘Yellowstone’—but there’s one clue that might change that…

When it comes to Taylor Sheridan shows, people often think about his hit Western franchise, Yellowstone, and its many spin-offs and prequels. However, there is another one that is just as juicy and tackles another part of life out in the Wild West. It’s entitled Landman, and it centers around the oil.  Business. Below, we have gathered everything you need to know about the show, including when you can expect to stream the second season.

What to know is ‘Landman’ about?

Released in 2024, Landman takes place in West Texas and follows Chris Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) as he tries to put his oil business back on top.

“I think Taylor [Sheridan] is trying to kill me,” Thornton told Variety in January 2025 of his character’s journey in season 1. “He had me beat up at the beginning and beat up at the end. At least he let me throw a few punches myself there in the middle.”

Along with Thornton, the show also stars Kayla Wallace, Demi Moore, Ali Larter, Paulina Chávez, Jon Hamm, Jacob Lofland, Mark Collie and Michelle Randolph—the former of stars as Elizabeth Dutton is in Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel 1923.

“Honestly, Taylor Sheridan takes chances on actors, and he’s one of the few people I feel like in the industry who really does that and has given us this opportunity,” Randolph told PEOPLE. “And I just am eternally grateful for him.”

In a separate interview with the outlet, the actress also shared that Thompson—who plays her father in the series—is the “kindest, most genuine human,” and now she views him as “another dad figure.”

Randolph also said that Hamm and Moore are “lovely” and that she was so happy to work with them because she had “watched them my whole life… I’m trying not to be a fangirl. I’m going to play it cool. But they’re my favorite actors of all time, which is so cool.”

Everything to know about Season 2 of ‘Landman’

Season 2 of Landman is currently in production and all cast members are expected to return except Hamm, whose character died in Season 1.

Currently, there are no details on the release date or the plot; however, if you cannot wait to return to the oil field, you can always stream the 2019 podcast Boomtown, which inspired the series.

“A lot of it is very accurate,” Christian Wallace, podcast host and Landman co-creator, told Deadline. “Some of it we had to kind of squeeze together to make it make sense for our characters. And it’s funny, it depends on who you ask. My uncle, who has worked in the oil field for the last 30 years, will nitpick every little thing. But I think for the most part, it’s safe to say you get a decent sense of what it’s like working in oil and gas out there.”

“Taylor [Sheridan] and I were the writers’ room. We spent about two years talking about the show, the characters, the storyline before any scripts were written. Taylor asked me to write a spec script based on the stuff we’d been talking about,” he continued. “I went and did that, and he told me, ‘Okay, you’re going to be the co-creator of the show.’ We would talk about scenes, dialogue, things like that. And then Taylor would actually go and write the episodes. I was on set throughout the duration of filming to help with anything I could help with, whether that was rig stuff or costumes or dialogue or whatever.”

Will ‘Landman’ connect to the ‘Yellowstone’ universe?

Despite both of them being under the Sheridan umbrella, there is no evidence that Landman and Yellowstone connect.

There are ways that they could, though. Not only does one of the new Yellowstone spin-offs 6666 (four sixes) take place in Texas, but there is also the fact that Randoplh is in both franchises. Could her Landman character, Aynsley Norris, be a long-lost relative of her 1923 character, Elizabeth Dutton? Only time will tell.
