‘Landman’ Star Billy Bob Thornton Reveals Demi Moore’s Extended Role in Season 2

Writer/Producer Taylor Sheridan has been churning out series after series on Paramount+ following the runaway success of Yellowstone, and the newest of these, the oil industry drama Landman, might just be Sheridan’s biggest hit since he began building his little TV empire.

Paramount+ recently streamed the season finale of Landman, the newest show created by Taylor Sheridan. Since its premiere in November, Landman has found incredible success, beating out shows like Squid Game (Season 2) for being one of the most popular and viewed shows on streaming in December and January.

Sheridan’s universe of television shows on Paramount+ has found varying levels of popularity, attracting huge stars to lead series like Tulsa King and Special Ops: Lioness (Sylvester Stallone, Zoe Saldaña, Frank Grillo, Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, and more).

Demi Moore Landman

Landman has just as impressive a cast of actors, albeit some are more underused than others. Case in point: Demi Moore, who plays Cami, the wife of Monty (Jon Hamm), barely plays a role in the first season. While there hasn’t been any official announcement regarding a renewal, series star Billy Bob Thornton is confident that Moore will play a bigger role in future seasons. In an interview with Deadline, the actor said, “I think definitely if there were to be a second season, Demi will figure into it greatly.”

Demi Moore has received plenty of attention, not just for her minimal role in Landman, but also for her astounding performance in the 2024 horror film The Substance, which earned the actor multiple award nominations (so far, she’s won a Golden Globe for the film).

The twisted body horror film highlights a different and unexpected side of Moore’s talent and further proves that the Paramount+ series hasn’t utilized her to her fullest capability. Should Landman get a Season 2 renewal, the series and writer Taylor Sheridan have a chance to give her a more expanded role.

‘Landman’ Season 2 Could Show a New Side of Demi Moore’s Character

Billy Bob Thornton isn’t the only creative from the show who believes Moore’s character could play a bigger role. Series co-creator/executive producer Christian Wallace told TVLine that he thinks the character could become a real power player in the show, especially following the death of her husband in the season finale. Wallace explained:

“Cami is definitely a force to be reckoned with, and we haven’t exactly gotten to see her, like you mentioned, really exert that power and influence, because she’s been in a very different role in the first season. And so, if the story were to continue, it would be very interesting to see what Cami’s role would be in this world when she’s the person closer to the top and is making these decisions in a world that is still mostly populated by men.”

Wallace even acknowledged Moore’s incredible talent as an actor, especially following her Golden Globe win, saying a more involved role of power and influence in the series for her character would “be just a very interesting role for her to play, moving forward. And especially having Demi play that character, who is also at the peak of her powers? I think that would just be kind of incredible to watch.”

Whatever the future holds for Landman, the series has plenty more stories to tell, especially given the shift in leadership in the Texas oil industry by the end of the first season. Taylor Sheridan continues to craft compelling Western dramas with modern and inspired backdrops, and having Demi Moore play a critical role in future episodes would undoubtedly help Landman stand out in the sea of streaming titles currently available to watch.

enewed in March, and now it’s looking like our favorite disheveled West Texas oilman, Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton), could be back on our screens before we know it. Which is a good thing, because Tommy has a lot on his plate — french fries and mashed potatoes, you could say — and he’ll surely get even more problems added to his pile when Landman returns. Here’s everything we know so far about Season 2.

Landman Season 2 latest news

Sam Elliott, the closest thing Hollywood has to a real cowboy, is joining Season 2 of Landman, TV Guide can confirm. Paramount+ announced his casting on April 29. Details on his character are being kept secret for now.

Landman Season 2 premiere date prediction

It’s hard to predict premiere dates for Taylor Sheridan shows. There are so many factors at play — A-list actor schedules, weather, Sheridan’s mercurial creative process — that it’s easier to just say you’ll see it when it’s ready. But since Landman went into production on Season 2 in April, it’s doubtful the break between seasons will be very long. Lioness, another of Sheridan’s Paramount+ shows, which is arguably an even more complex production than Landman, only took 15 months between Seasons 1 and 2, even with the writers and actors strikes of 2023. So if the planned production timeline holds, we would expect to see Landman Season 2 in late 2025 or early 2026.

Landman Season 2 renewal

After many months in limbo, Landman was finally renewed for Season 2 on March 12, 2025. The first season ended on Jan. 12 with lots of buzz and impressive viewership numbers — the streaming service said the show is its most-watched original to date, a claim backed up by its high placement on the Nielsen streaming chart — so the news was hardly surprising. In fact, the only thing that was surprising was that it took Paramount+ so long to make the call official. The network did not announce any other details, including plot, release date, or cast.

In May 2024, months before Season 1 premiered, Landman star Demi Moore told Deadline that she expected to start filming Season 2 in early 2025. “I’ve already completed the first season and I’m excited for us to start the second which will be at the beginning of next year,” she said. Adding even more speculation was star Ali Larter, who told Elle in January 2025 that a production timeline for Season 2 had already been set. She seemed just as antsy as we were, asking Paramount to “just announce it!”

Landman Season 2 production

The Taylor Sheridan machine never stops, apparently. On April 2, 2025, Paramount+ announced that production on Landman Season 2 had begun, just three weeks after the series was renewed (the wheels have clearly been unofficially in motion on Season 2 for a while). As part of the announcement, Demi Moore received second billing in the cast list behind only Billy Bob Thornton, the titular landman himself — indicating she’ll be more prominent in Season 2. That would make sense, as Moore’s popularity is spiking following her Oscar-nominated performance in The Substance.

Most of the Season 1 cast will probably return for Season 2, including:

  • Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a land manager at M-Tex Oil, whose life is one crisis after another
  • Demi Moore as Cami Miller, Tommy’s friend and the widow of his boss, Monty
  • Ali Larter as Angela Norris, Tommy’s ex-wife with whom he’s rekindled a relationship
  • Michelle Randolph as Ainsley Norris, Tommy and Angela’s daughter, who’s supposedly in high school and dreams of marrying an NFL quarterback
  • Jacob Lofland as Cooper Norris, Tommy and Angela’s son, who plans to start his own oil company to provide for Ariana
  • Kayla Wallace as Rebecca Savage, a shark of an attorney who Monty put in charge of M-Tex alongside Tommy
  • James Jordan as Dale Bradley, a petroleum engineer who manages roughnecks and is Tommy’s roommate
  • Paulina Chávez as Ariana Medina, a young widow who is falling in love with Cooper, but it’s too soon after her husband’s death
  • Colm Feore as Nathan, M-Tex’s general counsel and Tommy’s other roommate
  • Mustafa Speaks as Boss, an experienced roughneck
  • Andy Garcia as Gallino, a high-ranking drug cartel member who wants to do business with Tommy
