‘Landman’s Billy Bob Thornton Teases Explosive Season 2 of Taylor Sheridan’s Latest Hit

In Landman, the dust never settles — especially for Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris. As the oil-soaked drama barrels into production on Season 2, Thornton is reflecting on what makes Taylor Sheridan’s latest series so compelling, and why audiences keep coming back for more.

In a new interview with Awards Radar, the Sling Blade star opened up about what attracted him to the role, how his character straddles the line between chaos and control, and why this new season is putting relationships front and center. Landman, which follows the big money world of oil tycoons, field workers, and corporate fixers in West Texas, quickly became another huge hit in the ever-expanding Sheridanverse. Thornton, who plays crisis manager Tommy Norris, said the success still feels a bit surreal.

“We thought it was going to be successful, but we didn’t know it was going to blow up like this,” Thornton shared. “So, we’re pretty happy.”

Sheridan originally wrote the part of Tommy with Thornton in mind — something that immediately drew the Oscar winner in. “It just intrigued me,” he said. “You don’t get a look behind the curtain of the oil business very often. I was telling a journalist one day that it’s kind of like Giant with cursing.”

What Is Season 2 of ‘Landman’ About?

With Landman Season 2 currently filming, Thornton teased a deepening of character dynamics across the board, following the development of several characters in Season 1.

“We’ve been shooting for about a month and a half, and I am loving it. The relationships are getting even more developed, and the cast is gelling even more. It just seems more and more real every day, so I’m very, very happy with it. It deals with the relationships a lot this year, so I’m very happy about that.”

The actor also reflected on his bond with the cast — from real-life father-daughter connections with Michelle Randolph to long-standing friendships with Demi Moore, Sam Elliott, and Andy Garcia, all of whom he will be working with very closely in the ten episodes to come. “It always sounds kind of trite to say we’ve really become a family, but it’s the truth,” he said.

Landman streams exclusively on Paramount+. Production on Season 2 is currently underway, and it will arrive on the streaming platform in November. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on Landman and the world of Taylor Sheridan.
