Matt and his family were introduced to audiences through the TLC series, Little People, Big World. The show followed the lives of Matt, his then-wife Amy, and their four children. Matt, Amy, and their son Zach all have dwarfism.

Matt and Amy, who originally married in 1987, divorced in 2016. After this, Matt started a relationship with Caryn Chandler, who was formerly a manager for the family’s farm.

However, news came out in July 2025 that Matt and Caryn’s relationship had ended. With the two previously announcing their engagement, this led fans at the time to wonder what had happened.

Recently, an inside source discussed the story with The U.S. Sun. According to the insider, an argument about their Oregon home might have ended the relationship.

The source shared, “Caryn ended it because Matt didn’t listen to her opinion on certain things.” They noted, “She didn’t want to be making choices, but she wanted her input to be respected, and it never was.”

One thing in particular proved to be an issue for the couple: “One thing they didn’t agree on was the house. Caryn didn’t think they needed it at first, and then once it was built, all Matt did was complain about it.”

The Source Also Shed Some Light On The Timeline Of The Breakup, Compared To When The News Came Out

According to the source, Caryn “didn’t feel respected enough to stay and found him quite difficult to be with at times.” However, the source alluded to other issues, noting, “She is also getting older and is hoping to live a drama-free life. There’s a lot of drama surrounding Matt and the family. In the end, it was too much.”

The source also shared that the break-up wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment decision. They claimed that Caryn tried to sit Matt down multiple times to tell him what she felt needed to change. It was also noted, “There was no specific moment that tipped things. She had just worked at it for long enough, and their relationship wasn’t changing.”

The source also revealed that things had ended a while before the news became public. They shared, “She ended it in person, and they actually broke up about a month before Matt’s Facebook post.”

Matt had worked for months on the construction of the couple’s home on the family farm in Oregon. The project, which reportedly saw $1,461,520 spent on construction, was finished before the split.
