‘Yellowstone’s Kayce Dutton Spin-Off Will Be With Us Sooner Than We Think

Just when you thought Yellowstone was finally riding off into the sunset with just the three upcoming spin-offs, Taylor Sheridan’s empire proves it’s not done growing — not by a long shot.

The next phase of the Dutton saga isn’t just on the way, it’s coming sooner than you might expect. According to Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw, the long-rumored Kayce Dutton spin-off is officially happening — and it’ll arrive on CBS in 2026.

Luke Grimes, who played the quietly tormented Kayce for five seasons, is expected to return, and the new series is being described as a procedural-style drama. That’s a serious tonal shift from the land wars and family drama of Yellowstone, but honestly? It might be exactly what this franchise needs.

There’s still no official word on the premise, but if this is set after the events of Yellowstone’s final episode, “Life Is a Promise,” it could see Kayce re-entering law enforcement. And if continuity holds, Kelsey Asbille and Brecken Merrill may also return as Monica and Tate. Let’s hope the show doesn’t sideline them — or worse, kill them off to kickstart the plot. The Dutton family has been through enough.

Why Would a Kayce Dutton Show Work?

Kayce has always been one of the most fascinating Duttons — a Navy SEAL turned rancher turned reluctant Livestock Commissioner who never quite knew where he belonged. Every time he got close to peace with Monica and Tate, something would drag him back into chaos. Now that John Dutton’s gone and the fight for the ranch is over, this spin-off finally has a chance to put Kayce front and centre with a purpose.

And CBS might be the perfect home for this next chapter. A procedural set in the American West feels fresh — think Longmire, but with a Yellowstone edge. It’s a chance to ground the show in weekly storytelling, give Kayce more agency, and carve out a whole new lane for the franchise that isn’t about cattle brands or broken fences.

What makes this even more exciting is that it’s part of a full-blown Sheridan-verse expansion. Not only is there a Kayce series in the works, but the Dutton Ranch sequel starring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser (Beth and Rip) is expected this fall on the Paramount Network. Add The Madison with Michelle Pfeiffer and 1944, another prequel, and you’ve got a Yellowstone ecosystem that’s practically rivaling Law & Order.
